  Department of Civil Engineering

Civil engineering is a professional engineering discipline that deals with the design, construction, and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including works like roads, bridges, canals, dams, and buildings. Civil engineering is the oldest engineering discipline after military engineering, and it was defined to distinguish non-military engineering from military engineering. It is traditionally broken into several sub-disciplines including environmental engineering, geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, transportation engineering, municipal or urban engineering, water resources engineering, materials engineering, coastal engineering, surveying, and construction engineering. Civil engineering takes place on all levels: in the public sector from municipal through to national governments, and in the private sector from individual homeowners through to international companies.

Surveying Lab:

Survey lab consists of various surveying and levelling apparatus. It fulfils all the instruments to understand and execute surveying requirements.  Its major apparatus include auto level, dumpy level, theodolites as well as total station will execute all the surveying work.

Engineering Geology Lab:

Geology is the study of natural rocks and minerals. It practically understands the physiology of rocks and minerals their classifications. This adds more strength to their technical studies. The lab consists of physical samples of various types of rocks and minerals. As a part of syllabus it also consists of various dams and weirs.

Fluid Mechanics Lab:

The flow characteristics of fluid such as velocity, acceleration, pressure and energy can be examine in this lab with the instruments like, Venturimeter, Bernoulli’s apparatus, notch apparatus, Orifice meter, flow through pipes apparatus, friction in pipe fittings apparatus etc.

Concrete Technology Lab:

The fully equipped concrete lab consists of various apparatus for testing of cement, aggregates and concrete according to the Indian standard codal provisions. Lab consists of Universal testing machine which fulfils major testing needs on concrete.

Hydraulic Lab:

It consists of machinery modals of various hydraulic instruments, such as turbines like Fransis, Keplan and Pelton wheel, pumps like reciprocating and centrifugal, jet modals and their caliberation equipments.Venturimeter, Bernoulli’s apparatus, notch apparatus, Orifice meter, flow through pipes apparatus, friction in pipe fittings apparatus etc.

Material Testing Lab:

This lab is concern about the properties of civil engineering materials like steel, aluminium wood. To check their properties like stress, strain, strength various machines are used like universal testing machine, fatigue testing machine, hardness testing machine, impact testing machines are used to examine and study the strength and physical behaviour under loading.
